Green Juice For Healthy Skin And High Energy

green-juiceFirst I would like to say, if you aren’t juicing, what are you waiting for!?

Second I would like to say to the naysayers, and there are always a few, who state “…but you should EAT your veggies and fruits to get the much needed fiber!” I agree! I completely agree.  But juicing is something to do in addition to eating those fruits and veggies.  Cold pressed fresh juice packs a ton of nutrients. When you add more veggies to fruits in the mix, you don’t spike your blood sugars like regular juice can.

I’m sharing this recipe with you for interest’s sake.  Take it and run with it or bypass it, it’s up to you.  Either way, this is something that I do every day and wanted to share with all of you!

Organic Green Juice For A Damn Sexy Glow And High Energy

Ingredients:

One bunch of celery, washed and chopped into small sticks

Two cups of baby spinach

Five green apples, chopped (you can put the whole apple in)

One lemon (save the seeds to plant later, makes a lovely little green plant)

Ginormous chunk of ginger (not from China, the organic one from Peru)

Two enormous field cucumbers, seeds and all (do not peel, just wash)

How To:

Wash and soak all your organic produce to remove any handling germs.

Chop as stated and put to one side.

Haul out your juicer, and go to town.

Refrigerate for up to 24 hours.  You can stretch this to 48 hours but your juice will not pack as much nutritional punch as it does in the first hours.  This combo yields about 2 quarts of juice but since we live in Canada to you that is….around one and a half liters or so.

Guzzle it down a few times a day when you get tired of your water.  It will fuel you like no other. Hope you enjoy this amazing juice!

Put Your Feet Up

young-couple-enjoying-romantic-moments-in-nature-picjumbo-comLife is unfolding before us at a phenomenal pace.  We need to take some of the moments afforded us and put our feet up to see how that feels for a bit.  We  need to stop striving and trying so hard and just BE.  Being is half of what we are, human beings.  So let us put into practice what we are named for. Let’s try BEing for once.

Nothing is in our control, and this is actually a good thing.  It means you can relax! We need to remember this as life picks up the pace, gets a little too hectic and out of whack.  We are at peace when we sit in silence, or drink a tea, or take the time to meditate.  Read a chapter. Enjoy a cookie.  Do your nails.  Nap for a half hour.

BE for once.  Tis so good for the soul xo G

Beet Juice For Glowy Skin

beetA recipe I love as of late is one I adapted from Oh She Glows! by Angela Liddon.

It is a simple beet juice recipe, full of the antioxidants and nutrients your skin needs to glow that healthy glow!

For two servings:

3 medium sized beets*

2 cucumbers

2 green apples

2 carrots

1 lemon

Scrub and quarter your beets, leave the greens if they are attached, and the root.  You want all this plant nutrition in your juice!

Peel and chop the carrots.

Slice apples into chunks, lose the core, keep the skin.

Remove the rind from the lemon, cut into quarters.

Cut cucumbers but leave skin on, and make sure the pieces fit down the juice chute! LOL

Juice your ingredients and serve it chilled for best taste.  I love this one! Beets are flourishing now at farmers markets and grocery stores…so go crazy and make some beet juice for your own great health.

*beets may need to be lightly steamed if they are too large to cut

I am almost back to my regular schedule.  Wednesday September 7th I will be full time again.  Thank you for your patience during these summer hours, it has been nice to be home with my kids.

Dawn Of A New Me (And maybe you too)

There have been some women in my life who inspire me to no end. I cherish each of them in their own unique, beautiful way.  Lately one of those beautiful friends inspired me to slow my life down, to really get what it is all about.  That included spending more balanced, quality time at home with my family and children.  This advice has served me well, and the timing of it quite perfect. I’m annoying my kids chasing them around with SPF 30! It’s great!

During the summer months I am flat out busy at work, so this altered schedule which involved me ditching a few precious work days and condensing them  down into two days a week – was a huge leap of faith.  I had to choose, the financial security or the happy factor? The choice was abundantly clear.  Happy.

Don’t get me wrong, I have not won the lottery yet, so this change requires some creativity.  But let me tell you this – what a joy it has been to find my spark again!  My diet, my fitness routine, my spiritual life and my family have all reaped the benefits of this change.  It will all go back to normal in September, when I resume my five day work week.  But for now, my batteries are recharging, I’m spending time with loved ones in nature and that is worth all the tea in China to me.  As far as saving money goes, have you checked out the FLIPP app on your smart phone? Now that I have time to actually make shopping lists instead of just flying into the store and winging it – it is an invaluable tool for me to formulate and plan weekly meals.  And it let’s you clip deals from all your favourite stores in order to price match. Leaving me more money for things like pedicures, massages, facials…

Why I Love Waking Up In The Morning

kahlil-on-beauty

I work five days a week in my little yet transformative, powerful, blissed out space I call The SPA on King. It is a haven for good smells, steamy hot towels, basalt rocks slick with essential oils, and more.

I belong here.

I thrive in this environment of volcanic ash masks, collagen gels, Balinese oils and warm blankets.

It is my Mecca.

It is my happy place.

I know this may sound strange, but I really believe I was born to encourage soul work and relaxation in people.  Not a day goes by in my life where I don’t strive to improve myself, and I am continually crossing paths with like-minded women who become loyal clients and friends.  My hope is that you will see yourself differently after an encounter with me at my spa.  You will leave my company with a little more knowledge about yourself than you had when you first walked in the door.  There are magical little nuggets of inner wisdom always on the cusp of the surface, and with some tweaking, shoulder massage, some conversation and some time to think quietly too – you will discover them easily and they will make your soul sparkle with joy! Relaxation is transformative.  It is key to breaking blocks in the mind and body.  It is essential for your beauty – your outer glow.  You will leave elevated, on path, and feeling serenely peaceful.  I warn you, it’s contagious.  So please rebook at the time of your appointment so you don’t miss any more regular opportunities to bliss out with me in the sweet turquoise spa.  I work with just one client at a time, to maximize your relaxation experience and provide undivided individual attention to you.  And I’m super excited to see you soon.

Skin Care Menu – Acneic Skin

Skin is SKIN. Banner-products-skin-is-skinFor those of us with acneic skin, or skin that tends to be both sensitive AND breakout – here is the recommended line up for home care that will keep your skin glowing and blemish-free between facials.

Acne Skin Type Recommendations

Products-icones-acnose_cleanser1. Acnose Cleanser for oily skin types.

This is your first step to clear, glowing skin. You will want to be sure to use lukewarm water, never hot – to safely cleanse without spreading infection.  Two things bacteria LOVE…hot water to proliferate and spread out over your whole face and agressive cleansing with drying products.  If you are doing this then stop!

Cleanse gently and effectively with a non-foaming gel cleanser.  Use fresh, clean towels with every face wash.  Never re-use towels…they harbour bacteria.

2. AHA Scrub

A gentle yet highly effective (and necessary step) exfoliant to coax those dead skin cells off your skin.  This is done after cleansing. Twice a  week is all you need.  Don’t over exfoliate! This leads to dryness lines and can cause more breakouts.  Physical exfoliants (those that contain grains, shells, or beads) can tear at acneic skin worsening your situation. AHA Scrub is designed to work enzymatically, the ingredients feed on your dead skin cells and leave the healthy, living tissue alone.

3. Cucumber & Avocado Mask

This third step is a once a week, critical step to nourishing your skin! See why:

  • Calming properties from cucumber ideal for inflammation
  • Emollient properties from avocado ideal for dehydration
  • Soothes skin irritation for sensitive skin
  • Delivers moisturizing nutrients to the epidermis
  • Enriched with vitamins and antioxidants
  • Softens skin and brightens complexion

4. Collagen Gel & Elastin Gelproducts-icones-elastin-bigopenjarThis next-to-last step is what will repair your beautiful skin, bring it back to the best hydration levels you can possibly achieve.

  • Restores skin hydration and suppleness
  • Delays formation of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Revitalizes and normalizes the production of collagen
  • Reduces signs of premature aging and photo-damage
  • Improves skin’s appearance and texture.
  • Improves skin conditions of rosacea, couperose, broken capillaries and:
    • Normalizes oily skin and tightens pores
    • Revitalizes and normalizes the production of collagen
    • Excellent for calming and reducing redness
    • Delivers essential moisture and balance to the skin.

    The LAST STEP…a surface moisturizer.

Products-big-acnose_ultraAcnose Creme…will do the following when applied after cleansing, exfoliating, masking and in-depth moisturizing:

  • Provides surface hydration to imbalanced skin conditions
  • Helps restore moisture levels within the top layers of the skin
  • Non-occlusive ingredients deliver weightless hydration
  • Provides matte finish for oily skin texture.
  • Non pore-clogging and quick-absorption formulation
  • Gently soothes irritated and inflamed skin
  • Helps control shine with matte finish

The daily routine for this menu is as follows:

Every day1.Cleanse 2.Collagen/Elastin 3.Acnose Creme both morning and night.

Twice Weekly 1.Cleanse 2.Exfoliate 3.Collagen/Elastin 4.Acnose Creme in the morning.

1.Cleanse 2.Collagen/Elastin at night.

Once Weekly1.Cleanse 2.After exfoliation use Cucumber & Avocado mask 3.Collagen/Elastin 4.Acnose Creme in the morning.

1. Cleanse 2.Collagen/Elastin at night. We’ll skip moisture one night a week to allow your skin to breathe and repair on it’s own.

So beautiful, now you know what products I recommend for acneic skin.

Remember; no reusing towels, use lukewarm water only, cleanse morning and night, and sleep well…because stress is a huge contributing factor to acne breakouts! You will glow in no time, let me know how it goes. ]

Peace & Glowing Skin,

Gillian
